The Wonder Cabinet: art, wonder, and connection
The Wonder Cabinet is a tiny, curiosity-filled vending machine designed to offer moments of beauty, surprise, and meaning in everyday life. Inspired by historic cabinets of curiosities—collections of natural objects, art, and oddities meant to spark wonder—the Wonder Cabinet invites people to pause, notice, and take home something small but thoughtful.
Each Wonder Cabinet is stocked with artist-made paper goods: postcards, stickers, and prints meant to be kept, shared, or sent onward. Nothing inside is mass-produced. Everything is designed to feel intentional, tactile, and quietly meaningful.
This project is rooted in a love of nature, storytelling, and small moments of connection—through the web of life and across time.

The very first Wonder Cabinet features a collection of illustrated postcards inspired by vintage designs. These postcards reference early 20th‑century correspondence—when messages traveled slowly and words were chosen with care.
Each postcard features an original illustration—flowers, mushrooms, or a gentle woodland moth—paired with a short phrase such as “spread kindness” or “grow love.” A small “26”appears on every card, styled like a postage stamp, marking the year 2026.
Rather than choosing a specific design, visitors insert $1.25 and receive one postcard at random. The element of chance is intentional: you don’t pick the message—you receive the one that finds you.
-
The Wonder Cabinet is not about collecting everything at once. It’s about the experience of discovery.
Receiving a random postcard encourages curiosity, play, and trust—an openness to surprise that feels increasingly rare. Some people keep their card. Some stand it on a desk or bedside table. Others mail it to a friend, tuck it into a book to gift, or leave it for someone else to find.
These postcards are meant to travel.
-
This first Wonder Cabinet is only the beginning. Over time, new collections will rotate through the machine: different themes, new illustrations, and other small paper offerings.
Each Wonder Cabinet will reflect the same values:
Art that invites slowing down
Objects that encourage connection
A sense of wonder rooted in the natural world
If you happen upon a Wonder Cabinet, I hope you’ll take a moment to explore it, receive a special item, and let it become part of your story.
